Convertable Updo - 3 in 1 style

Have you ever had a hair wash day where you wanted a cute hairstyle but didn't want to take forever to achieve your look?  Well, I had one of those days this week.  I decided that I would gel my hair upwards in the back and just style the top and front of my hair like in this tutorial.

Day 1

I two strand twisted my hair and then rolled it on the grey perm rods.

I always use Eco Styler gel to smooth my hair in the back.

Day 2

That night I set my hair using bantu knots so the curls would remain.  I'm still mastering this technique. And of course my hands cramped from all the twisting.  Ugh!  But the curls turned out pretty well!

Day 3

Lastly, I decided to moisturize my hair and then do a twist out for a different look.

Fashion note:  This scarf orignally belonged to my mom. It's over 35 years old!  #vintage

I love getting different looks out of the same style!

How I Stretch My Hair for a Twist Out

Hello everyone!  It's been a LONG while since I've blogged.  It seems like this month has just flown by!  But I'm back, and I'm here to show you in a series of blog posts how I have been wearing my hair over the past month.

You may wonder how to stretch your hair for fuller and bigger twist outs.  Well I will show you in this post!

Usually, when I do a twist out on on freshly washed hair (without stretching) my results look like this:

Very defined hair - twist out day 1

To stretch my hair for a fuller twist out, I now pin my twists back with clips and the back with a pony tail holder.

Which results in this look when fluffed.

See the difference?  As my hair grows, I love it's fuller, fluffier look.  I think I adore BIG hair!  I'm also discovering that while I appreciate definition, I also don't mind a little frizz.

On Day 5, it's obnoxiously huge!

What say you...do you like the fuller or more defined look better?

Protective Style: Cornrowed Updo

So by now those of you who follow me know that about 2 weeks out of each month, I wear a protective style and for the other 2 weeks I wear my hair out.  It just gives me a break from styling my hair and my hair a break from being styled.  Well, in early April I went back to Taji's Natural Hair Styling for this protective style.  I loved the look!  I was able to maintain this style for 2.5 weeks!  I retwisted the bang section about once a week.  At night I would mist my hair with my moisturizing mist and then add oil.  I would tie a scarf around the back of my head and under the bangs, top with my satin bonnet and go to sleep.

Check out more pictures of the style below!

My First Bantu Knot Out

So I've been doing twist outs on my hair for a while now because I love the progression of how voluminous they get over the week.  Love, love them.  Well I received some new product that I wanted to try out and decided to try this style.   I loved my initial results but because the day that I did the bantu knot out happened to be a rainy day, the style did not hold but for 2 days before it got frizzy.   On day 3 I pulled it into a curly fro hawk and day 4 & 5 I wore it in a bun.

The bantu knots

After unraveling the knots - no separating

Separated and fluffed a little

My inspiration -  I used the following products:  Koils by Nature Nourishing Hair & Body Butter (instead of the Entwine Butter Creme Hydrator),  Entwine Creme Jelle Styler, topped with Koils by Nature Herbal Gel.

I got pretty close don't you think?

So what do you guys think?  Should I try this style again?
