I'm still using the same shingling method that most naturals use when applying gel for curl definition. I'll post a video below of one of my favorite Youtube vloggers, PhillyDiva19154, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with shingling. (Note: I use a different leave-in conditioner, etc but this is just for the technique of applying the gel.)
Now, I will prepare you that when you get up in the morning you'll have "helmet head" meaning your hair will be flat on the sides that you sleep on. This is how I refresh my style in the morning. I spritz my hair with my
moisturing mist. Then I take my shower and let the moisture from the steam loosen my hair. I shake it vigorously to loosen the curls. Then I pull out a few sections with my fingers and stretch with my pic. Another technique is demonstrated in the video below by another Youtuber that I follow. I don't band my hair at night like she does but from the 4:00 minute marker and beyond, my technique is very similar.
One of the things I love about doing this blog is that I am able to see my growth progression. Check out the pictures below for pictures from previous wash and go's. I'm definately on the grow!!! I'm loving this natural hair journey and all the lessons I'm learning along the way!

Your hair is growing like weeds Nita!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! I am so pleased with how well my hair is doing! I know you're about a month into your completely natural journey. How's it going?
ReplyDeleteNot bad. I must say that initially it took some getting use to. I was holding on to those straggly permed ends. They were my security blanket so to speak. Right now, I'm wearing twist outs, but tonight I think I might do some bantu knots. I just want it to grow. I want to try that cinnabun style.
ReplyDeleteAwww shoot! I just watched the videos posted. I'm going to try this.
ReplyDeleteNita- I tried the wash and go with the ecostyler gel. Complete fail!! My hair was soooo crunchy. When you do your wash and go, do you have a little crunch, or is your hair soft?
ReplyDeleteI used to have a little crunch (which I hated). The crunch will lesson over time or you can do one of the following to help. 1. You can apply an oil to your hair before applying he Ecostyler. or you can apply a product with gycerin to your hair. I've applied Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie on first and then the Ecostyler and that works to keep it soft. (Don't be scared when your hair is a little white when applying the gel, it will dry clear.) What I do now is set my hair with the gel and then spray my moisturizing mist on it the next day to refresh (and because it has glycerin in it) & it gives me that softness as well. I hope that helps!
